Reflection upon student works in the first-year design studio utilising estrangement to analyse and represent a story afterwards. This manuscript also demonstrates how a narrative framework can support the students to think systematically.

Adopting a narrative element, storyboarding exercise is used in Universitas Indonesia’s Basic Design 2 studio to read urban architectural settings and retell everyday life events.
